I work on discrete mathematics and operations research, with a particular interest in societal implications of algorithmic decision-making.

Much of my research focuses on how to build decision-making procedures that are demonstrably fairer, and what it costs to do so. I also care a great deal about teaching, and about helping undergraduates find their way into research.

In the classroom

Teaching

At the Naval Academy I coordinate and teach courses in operations research, linear algebra, statistical learning, stochastic models, and graph algorithms, and I advise midshipmen on independent research projects.
